Pioneering a new "Golden Age" of-Eco-sail Transport

The El Lago Coffee Company intends to show the world a model for sustainability and profit using 100% renewable energy. We will provide our customers with the greenest most delicious and eco-friendly products on the market

Just after hurricane season last year, the crew of El Lago Coffee Company's sailing vessel RedCloud embarked on a unique adventure to bring back the first coffee cargo by sailing ship since Christmas Day, 1914.  Nearing the end of the maiden voyage, RedCloud was struck by a strong storm New Years Eve night. In 30 ft plus seas and gale force winds she lost steering, suffered a punctured hull, and was taking on water. RedCloud had to be abandoned for the safety of her crew and sank January 1 st 2008.  Her coffee cargo now lies 6000 foot below in Davy Jones Locker.

The crew of RedCloud rode out tropical storm Olga, swam in shark-infested waters, repelled pirates, kidnappers and drug smuggler wanna-be's. Her crew ended up in the middle of a gun battle, navigated dangerous reefs, and sailed over 1,500 miles to get this coffee to our customers

Why?

Because the coffee is that good!

The initial voyage may have been cut short, but the journey into the next golden age of sail remains on course.   Proceeds from the sale of El Lago Coffee go towards the purchase of a sailing vessel designed or modified specifically for transporting coffee to consumers in the United States. The vessel will meet ABS and Lloyds standards for cargo duty.  We will continue to deliver a back cargo of donated educational and humanitarian supplies for the children of Central America.

Our mission is to deliver high quality, high demand, naturally grown products shipped in a manner that fosters brand loyalty from our customers, and promotes environmental preservation.

With coffee being the second largest commodity traded on earth after oil, by reducing the oil used in transport coffee, we take an important step in reducing our dependence on middle eastern oil.

Thank you for supporting our efforts and savor the flavor of our fine coffees.
